We have been working with Lilliana to learn this song so she could sing it with us at Emerson's birthday party :)

On Saturday we celebrated Emerson's 3rd birthday at River City Gymnastics. We had such a great time and my little gymnist wasn't scared of anything! I guess that has it's pro's and con's but she did great overall. She loved jumping on the trampoline, walking on the balance beam, and hanging on the rings. There were a ton of kids there and I was worried that Lilliana may get trampled on but she held her own!









After all the playing we headed upstairs to the party room where we enjoyed some yummy cake and ice cream, after singing Happy Birthday to Emerson. We then watched her open all her neat gifts including her Mickey Mouse Memory game and Princess puzzle from Lilliana. :)

Easter Egg Hunt

On Saturday morning we headed out to Buckhead for our church Easter Egg Hunt. It was so much fun and I really think Lilliana enjoyed herself. She was quite the pro considering it was her first year to hunt for eggs. I didn't even have to tell her what to do she just seemed to pick right up. We did have to watch out for some of the bigger kids though, the field we were on was up to age 3, and they were definitely quicker than Lilliana! There were a couple times when Dad's would tell their kids to let the "baby" have some eggs but it didn't seem to stop them!! We did end up with a whopping 5 eggs in our basket which I thought was pretty good.

We enjoyed getting to spend time with her friends while we were there and get lot's of good pictures of them together. We are now headed home to hopefully get Lilliana a nap before Emerson's birthday party later tonight.

Easter Playdate

On Thursday, Lilliana and I invited Amanda and Wilson along with Annah Mary and Amelia over for some Easter fun. Typically Thursday includes the gym, story time and lunch with these ladies but we decided to change things up a bit since it was Easter week. After heading to the gym we headed back over to our house and started out the fun with dying some Easter eggs. I had found a Mickey Mouse egg kit at JoAnn's back when they first opened here in Memphis and had been saving it for this day. The kids seemed to have a great time and although within the first 30 seconds Lilliana's hand was dyed pink to match her egg, things went well. She didn't really understand the concept of using the little wire hook to retrieve her freshly dyed egg and would rather just fetch it out with her hands! Mommy learned quickly to keep it far enough away from her the rest of the time. :)











After decorating our eggs the kids enjoyed some duck shaped PB&J sandwiches, "duckie" goldfish crackers, fruit and some kool-aid. The mom's enjoyed a yummy chicken recipe I got from Tracy a while ago that is great to make for a playdate since it cooks in the slow-cooker.

We then headed outside to hunt for the egg's Amanda and I had hidden for the kids. Amelia definitely took the cake here as she found all but about 3 of the eggs! After a little story time with some fun books and enjoying some sugar cookies it was time for everyone to head back to their own houses for nap time. Lilliana handed out a little sand bucket with shovel and some Easter coloring pages as a little thank-you. It was such a beautiful day and just the start of celebrating the resurrection of Jesus this weekend!

Big Weekend ahead ...

We have big plans here this weekend in the Burchett household. Saturday morning we are going to our churches Easter Egg hunt and I can't wait to see how Lilliana reacts to seeing eggs all over the place. After that I am heading to a Bridal shower for my good friend Michelle while Lilliana hopefully takes a good nap, because then it's off to Emerson's 3rd birthday party at River City Gymnastics. I am very excited about the party and would like to get Lilliana signed up for the Fall after she turns 2! She loves hanging on things and is such a little climber these days so I think she will have a great time at the party, as long as we can avoid all the bigger kids!

Then on Sunday we are heading to church to celebrate the resurrection of our Gracious Lord and Saviour, and will celebrate with family that afternoon. I am excited about Lilliana's Easter basket this year. I have gone a little overboard but she is worth it. They are so fun to buy for. I really have to watch myself. :)

Tantrums already?

Could we possibly be dealing with tantrums already? Lilliana is 15 month's going on 2 and I think is already showing quite the 'tude at times. Of course, this may seem astonishing to many of you because thankfully she is quite the little angel when we are out in public but when it is just Mommy and Lilly, she is in full swing. She has started throwing herself on the floor lately and that's really about as far as it goes. There isn't any leg kicking or flailing around associated with it but she is typically crying. This seems to happen when I take something from her that she is not supposed to play with or if I walk away from her too quickly and she wants to hold my hand or be carried. To be honest, I am not really sure how to handle it. So far, I have just been kinda ignoring her and sometimes laughing when I just can't hold it back any longer. I know that seems mean but she is just so dramatic at the ripe old age of 15 months. I have no idea how I am going to handle the terrible 2's and I have heard 3 is worse than 2! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I just don't know if I should punish the acting out behavior or ignore it and not bring attention to it.

Tuesday night Lilliana and I were getting ready to head to a baby shower for a friend from work and I decided my toes needed painting. Of course Lilliana was very interested so I decided to paint hers too. She was sooo cute and helped me by blowing on her toes when I told her we had to let them dry :)

My good friend from work Sarah is pregnant and expecting her third little girl in April. We were pregnant together with Lilliana and Isabella and actually delivered them on the same day just hours apart. Lilliana and I actually bumped Sarah's c-section since hers was scheduled and mine was because I was in labor! Anyways, on Friday we went to On The Border for lunch with some girls from work to celebrate the upcoming arrival of Olivia. Sarah had a lot of complications with Isabella consisting of contractions and bed rest and has unfortunately gone down the same road this go around also. We are hoping and praying she will get to at least 37 weeks which would be around mid April but we will take what we can get at this point.

Thankful ....

I have so many things to be thankful for these days; my family, my friends, a home to live in 2 working cars, my beautiful baby that is healthy and happy, the list could go on and on. But today, I am truely thankful that my husband and I BOTH have good jobs that we love. Yes, it may not always come across that way but I do love what I do. I have the opportunity to spend just about every waking minute with Lilliana and I wouldn't have it any other way, along with still working part-time at night. Clay has flexibility with his job and is able to go in later some mornings so I can sneak in a nap after work and is able to come home early if all of his work is complete.

Today Fed-Ex laid off 500 people here in Memphis. 500 People! I just can't imagine what all those families are going through tonight. Well, I guess I can since we went through it last August but it is such a nightmare. It's so amazing how quickly your life can be turned upside down. I just pray for those as we know quite a few who lost jobs and many of them are the only one's working in their family. I pray for new job opportunities, and for wisdom and peace between those going through these difficult times. I mean, marriage is hard enough without adding financial woes to the list.

Thank you Lord for all you have provided for my family and help me to realize the gifts you have given me daily!

Well, I did it ......

What you may ask? I know it may shock a few, probably many of you, but I have signed Lilliana up for Parent's Day Out starting in the Fall of 2009!! Can you believe it? Me, the Mom who rarely places her child in church nursery and is probably one of the most worrisome Mom's when it comes to germs! Well, let me explain .....

Unfortunately, Clay's job is pretty dependent on the economy, and well, as we all know it is not in the best shape right now. All of that boils down to me needing to pick up more shifts at work which also equals one tired, cranky, irritable Mom with dark circles under her eyes and one with a huge lack of patience. Mind you, I have patience for Lilliana because I feel she doesn't have any defense mechanisms against my antics so I just take things out on Clay. Not so good for him or our marriage for that matter. I sooooo desire to be a stay at home Mom full time, but in the meantime until things pick up around here I feel that God has really made a position at work just for me.

Currently, I am trying to complete 2 shifts a week, which are form the hours of 7pm - 7am. I typically get a nap the day of while Lilliana takes her afternoon nap and then I am not able to go back to sleep until she takes her afternoon nap the following day. I figure, if I am going to do 2 shifts a week then I should have some continuity and do a night weekend position that should be available in the next 2 weeks. Along with night weekends, I will still only be doing 2 nights a week but they will consist of 2 of the following days; Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. My ultimate goal is to be able to do Friday and Sunday nights so that I am able to still go to church on Sunday mornings and spend all of Saturday, after a little nap that is, with my family.

Well, now that I have tried to convince all you blog readers, along with myself just one more time, why I decided to place her in PDO let me give you more information about that. I have checked out probably every program around the East Memphis area and finally decided to place her at 2nd Presbyterian Church just down the road. I was very impressed with their facilities and have already been able to meet her teacher. She is just wonderful and I just know she is going to fall in love with my little Lilliana also. :) I hope!!

2nd Presbyterian is associated with PDS which is a very reputable Boy's School here in Memphis and I am so glad that we were able to get in. I got the last slot when I went and visited last Friday and I am so thankful I went so early. She will be attending PDO on Monday mornings from 8:45 - 2:45. I really wish I could just pick her up after lunch and may actually do some some days. Do you know how many hours 8:45 - 2:45 is? That is 7 hours people, 7 glorious hours that I am able to sleep!! I don't typically get 7 hours sleep at night sometimes. You can tell, I am excited! Along with sad, worried, concerned, would like to change my mind multiple times a day, but overall I know I NEED this. Lilliana NEEDS this. I am just now, 6 months later able to leave her for 45 minutes - 1 hour at the gym and her not scream her head off when I leave. I know she will have a great time and I trust her care to the wonderful ladies at 2nd Pres. Just please keep us in your prayers as this is a huge transition for Mommy. I almost cried when I walked out with my confirmation letter last week!! I know, I am a little dramatic :)

Of course there are some fun things that come with PDO, such as fun art work to bring home to Mommy, new friends to meet and most importantly a CUTE nap mat! Do I really think she will nap on this nap mat? No not really, but her teacher tells me it's parents like me who thinks our children won't nap that they do and for 2 hours at a time! I sure hope she's right because I don't won't my child to be the problem child. I have been looking all over the internet for a cute mat and have come across this one. Do you like this one? There are so many color options available, I can't decide on just one. Any opinions on where to get a cute one? Or opinions about colors on this one is greatly appreciated. :)

Day at the Zoo

Today after Lilliana's morning nap we packed up and headed to the Zoo. It was such a beautiful day, reaching into the low 70's with plenty of sunshine. I knew we couldn't waste it away sitting at home. Since we live in Memphis, before we know it, it will be 95 degrees and sweltering, so we must take advantage of days like this.

First thing we did was eat our lunch at one of the pavilion areas and then headed off to see the animals. Lilliana is starting to enjoy the Zoo more and more and likes to get out and walk around. Today we were able to see the penguins, monkeys, pandas, sea lions, hippos and much more. I think the only thing we weren't able to get to was Tiger Country, so we will just start there next time. We were working on our animal noises as we approached each new animal, and she was cracking me up when she started her penguin waddle while seeing them! She is just too funny. :)

Is he or isn't he ....


What am I talking about? Well, if you live in Memphis or anywhere between here and Lexington, KY you know exactly what I am talking about. Or if you follow NCAA basketball at all. After another disappointing year for the Kentucky Wildcats, Coach Billy Gillespie was fired on Friday and so started the rumor mills about who the future coaching job was going to. Unfortunately, according to some very reputable sources, Memphis' own Coach John Callipari is the forerunner for the job!!!

What? He has brought Memphis basketball to a level that most thought was impossible. Needless to say, he also has the top 3 recruits lined up for next year!!! All coming to Memphis, that is if Coach Cal stays.

Memphis is buzzing with the excitement, or possible dismay of losing our beloved coach and it seems to be on every station imaginable. Of course facebook is also blowing up with all sorts of inquires themself. Oh well, hopefully we will know by tonight. There is supposed to be press conference in our near future!!

well, it's official he is now a WIldcat! It was a great 9 years Coach Cal and I wish you the best. There is supposed to be a press conference held tomorrow here in Memphis to discuss the fate of Memphis basketball. I just hope and pray that they are able to bring in another big gun :)

Well, I don't have any real good one's to why I am so behind on blogging but I promise I am working on some posts. We have been so busy lately and since going back to work 2 nights a week the lack of sleep has really caught up with me. I feel like every spare minute I have I am either cleaning or sleeping. Two things that definitely take priority over blogging. Sorry. Lot's of fun things going on over here though so stay tuned!

this is a pic of Lilliana when she was about 3 weeks old. She was such a small little love and Clay and I were so lost at this point of parenthood :) We were living through lots of sleepless nights, at least I was, but I wouldn't have traded a minute of it!

15 month's young!

15 month's already! I just can't believe it. Time just seem sto go by quicker and quicker the older she gets! Today we went to see Dr. K. for our 15 month check-up and we received a clean bill of health. We had not grown like I had anticipated and had actually lost a couple ounces from our last visit but he was ok with that. She is just such an active little stinker and again Dr. K. seems to think she is just petite. He continues to tell me that she doesn't have the genes to be a very big girl and for me not to worry. We did decide to opt out for her MMR and have decided to wait until somewhere between her 18 month and 2 year check-up to receive that. I told Dr. K. that my concern was that she is the size of an average 6 month old and that I was just worried about it based on her weight. He agreed with me and told me that he did not have a problem at all with us waiting. We did receive the HiB and Varicella vaccines and she did pretty good with those. I medicated her with Tylenol once we got home and she took 2 really good naps for me today which is a rare occurance!

That is one concern that I voiced to Dr. K. and have actually spoken to one of my best friends who is also a Pediatrician. I would say our biggest struggle over the last month has been our daytime naps. When we are home, we still attempt to get 2 naps in during the day. She can go with only one, but still get's pretty sleepy around 10:00 so if we are at the house I try and put her down. The biggest problem is that for the last couple month's (since going back to work more) I have been extremely exhausted and would just do whatever it took to get her to sleep. Many times that meant caving, and just placing her in the bed with me and we would nap together. I know, bad habit to start and even harder one to stop. I decided about 3weeks ago that we were going to have nap boot camp and I was just going to put her in her crib and allow her to cry if that's what it took but we are still working on it. When we went to the beach she did pretty good. I would just put her in the pack-n-play and she would fall asleep fairly quickly most of the time, but we were also very active while we were there and I think she was exhausted most days by time nap time came around. He told me to just keep on trying and not give up and that eventually she will realize that when it is nap time she must sleep, and won't fight it as much. If anyone has any suggestions I am all open. It's so hard because for the last 15 month's I have pretty much catered to her every need and would come running if she cried but I know I have to draw the line at some point and I guess it is now.

In other news, Lilliana's little 'tude has definitely become apparent this month. When she doesn't get her way or I take something from her she was playing with she now likes to throw herself on the ground and whine. It's really hard not to laugh at her because she is just oh so dramatic. I have no idea where she get's it from! :)

She is so much fun though and really gives me a run for my money at times. I love her to pieces and can't imagine a single day without her. She is such a funny little girl and when she's not throwing a fit, is such a happy little squirt. She loves her sister Maggie (the yorkie) and her newest thing is to give Maggie treats and feed her supper. She know as soon as Maggie comes in from pottying that we giver her a treat and Lilliana is always waiting to help. She has picked up on ring-around-the-rosy and wants to do it over and over again. She learned to drink from a straw cup and looks like such a little toddler when she does so. The new animal noises she picked up on this month was; monkey, making a hippo face, waddling like a penguin, and my all time favorite was the girls at the beach taught her "ta ta's"! Thanks girls, I guess it could be worse :) She will point at her "ta ta's" and say what they are! I guess she had to learn what they were at some point.

Oh yeah, and her STATS at the office today were:

Oh yeah, and when did her separation anxiety get so bad that I can't even leave the room to get the camera or put her down long enough to get pics of her? I still think she's pretty stinkin cute even when she's fussing!

Beach 2009

Last Sunday Lilliana, Michelle and I loaded up the VW and headed to Birmingham, and I do mean loaded up! It is amazing how much stuff I brought between Lilliana and myself. I was actually surprised everything fit but between the backseat and the trunk we got all the necessities in there. Our first stop was Birmingham where we met up at Melissa's and ate some dinner and stayed the night before continuing on the following morning.

Around 10:00 on Monday we loaded up again and after a quick stop through Chick-fil-A we were officially on our way to Seven Sisters! Lilliana was quite the trooper and did really well in the car considering we only made one stop between B'ham and Destin. We arrived in Destin shortly after 3:00 and the weather was just gorgeous. We quickly unloaded the car, which, thank goodness for the elevators at the house otherwise Lilliana and I would have slept on the 1st floor! We then make a quick run for some snacks before heading to The Crab Trap for some yummy dinner. We didn't get back to the house until a little after 7:30 pm and it was past bedtime for Lilliana so that is directly where she went.

Tuesday morning it was sunny and in the mid 70's so after a trip to the grocery we got all of our beach gear together and headed down to enjoy some fun in the sun. Well, Lilliana had refused to take her morning nap so she wasn't as cooperative as I had liked her to be so we didn't stay down there very long. We decided to head back to the house and play a little bit before lunch and nap time. On Tuesday we decided that we were going to just eat at the house because Mrs. Shelton had sent some chicken spaghetti down for us to enjoy. When we were preparing dinner we realized that we had forgotten to pick up some rolls for dinner and we were all really craving some Sister Schubert rolls, so Melissa volunteered to run back to the grocery to pick them up for us. I told her she could take my car since it was at the end of the driveway and the Publix was just around the corner anyways. About 20 minutes later, I had just asked Michelle, "I wonder what's taking Mel so long", and no more than 2 minutes later my phone rang and it was her. I could tell something was wrong as soon as I picked up, by the tone of her voice. Mel told me she stopped to get me gas and asked if my car took a special kind of gas. I told her yes, because my VW is a diesel and only takes diesel fuel. Well, we quickly realized what had happened. Me filled the VW up with regular gas and only got about a 1/3 of a mile down 98 before the car stopped on her. I called Clay and he said to call the VW place in Destin. Of course there wasn't one in Destin but in Fort Walton about 15miles away. I phoned them and they said to have it towed there and they would take care of everything. I felt so guilty because I know Melissa was just trying to do me a favor. Michelle to Melissa's car to meet up with her on the side of the road but was really nervous about driving Mel's car. She called me before she even got out of the driveway because she was unable to get Mel's car to start, it was just a little tricky and had I not driven it before I wouldn't have known either. I couldn't help but laugh when I looked out the window of the beach house and saw Michelle halfway in the street in the BMW. (Can you laugh at it now Mitch?) They had to wait about an 1 1/2 for the tow truck and $50.00 later and pre-thawed rolls in hand they were ready for dinner. Jenn had been missing in all this excitement since she was eating dinner with her sister but I was keeping tabs with her through text messaging just in case we needed her.

On Wednesday morning it was another beautiful day and I decided that I was going to make sure Lilliana got her morning nap before heading down to the beach. I phoned the VW place before heading down and they reassured me that "this happens all the time, it's no big deal." I in turn reassured Mel and off to the beach we went, awaiting a quote from the dealership on how much the damage would cost. This time Lilliana was WONDERFUL on the beach. She absolutely LOVED it and was just content to sit under the umbrella and play with her toys. We stayed down there for about 3 hours until it was time for her afternoon nap and my then she was pretty pooped. She slept really well for me and after receiving a phone call that the car was ready Mel and I headed to Fort Walton to pick it up. Again, they reassured us that this happens all the time and not to worry about it. Well, $300.00 later we were both on our way back to the beach house. During this time, Lilliana was back at the house with Jenn and Michelle and they were teaching her some new tricks. She was asleep when I left so they decided they would take control. We had made plans to eat at Graffiti that night in Baytown Warf and enjoy all it has to offer so after showering and some freshening up we all drove down to the Warf. We had a great time a dinner and just walking around and made a quick stop at TCBY on the way back to the house.

Thursday morning was supposed to be rainy so we had decided that would be the day we went shopping. We left out pretty early and didn't get back until around dinner time. Lilliana was such a little trooper and was so tired she fell asleep in her highchair at lunch. I wish I had gotten a pic of it, but I was afraid I would wake her and then she woke up shortly after anyways. We ate some leftovers at the house for dinner and just enjoyed some Thursday night shows on ABC after I put Lilliana to bed.

Friday morning again was a beautiful day and we were able to spend most of it on the beach. Again, Lilliana was such a beach baby and played in the sand with her buckets and even ventured out to the ocean with Momma. I couldn't get over how much of a difference this trip was compared to the last time we took Lilliana to the beach. This time she loved the sand, ocean and the waves. Last time, not so much. For dinner we headed to Harry T.'s and were actually pretty unimpressed with our dinner. It cost a fortune and the food was marginal at best. There were a ton of people there though so maybe we just went on a bad night.

Unfortunately on Saturday it was time to pack up and head home. Luckily Michelle and I had taken pics of the way Brian loaded my car so that we would be able to reenact it for the trip home. We headed out around 10:00 but didn't get out of Destin till almost 11:00 because we had a couple of stops to make on the way out. Between Michelle and I, with our wonderful navigation skills and thanks to the iphone, we were taken on lots of back roads on the way home and it took us FOREVER. Not a good combination with a toddler. She was pretty good until around Corinth and by then it was way past bedtime and she was more than over the car. Let's just say, it was a long last 1 1/2!

Overall we had a great time and really enjoyed getting to catch up on life and the things going on with us. We have made this a yearly tradition since meeting in nursing school and plan to continue the tradition with our husbands and new babies in the coming years! Thanks so much for having us Mel, we love you and can't wait to do it again next year. :)

Toofers!

On Wednesday Lilliana's first TWO toofers popped through. I had planned to speak with Dr. K. if they had not arrived by her 15 month appointment so they got here just in time. Clay was sad that he isn't here to see them since we are currently at the beach, but I have sent him some pics of them and we will be home in a couple of days for him to see the proof for himself.

She did ok with teething. Since we are out of town, it may be a combination of multiple things waking her up at night, but she hasn't done so well sleeping through the night this week. This is NOT the norm for Lilliana so I figure it's just her teeth. I have just been medicating her almost around the clock with Tylenol and that seems to help some. Of course, a little TCBY goes a long way too! :)

Girls Night Out!

Last week, I started feeling bad on Wednesday night and ended up sick as a dog come Thursday morning. Clay had to call into work in the am because there was no way I was able to take care of Lilliana and myself at the same time. Mom's don't get sick days, ya know! Nana came over to help just after lunch so that Clay could head out and complete a little necessary work. We used lot's of Lysol and sprayed down the whole house on hopes of not getting anyone else sick.

Come Friday, Clay tells me he isn't feeling so well. When I woke up Saturday morning I noticed that he wasn't in the bed I just knew he had caught what I had earlier in the week. He thought he was immune and told me he doesn't get sick but I guess he was wrong! I quickly loaded Lilliana up and left for the gym with my mind swirling about what I was going to do next. I banished Clay to the bedroom before I left and had told him not to set foot outside of there until he was 100% better. I called my good friend Drew on the way to the gym (I knew that Amanda was working but hoped Drew could help me out temporarily). Of course to add to the excitement, I had planned a girls night out for later that evening and Memphis was predicting snow. Now, those of you who live in Memphis, know that usually when it's predicted we get none, the times they don't expect it is when we get multiple inches.

I ended up running into Drew as we were leaving the gym and he decided to head back home with both kids so that I could come back to our germ infested home and Lysol and Clorox everything within site. About 2 hours later, and 2 tubs of Clorox wipes and a can of Lysol later, Drew showed back up with Lilliana. I had just finished taking care of everything and felt safe for her to reenter the sick zone. :) Clay still wasn't feeling so good and had finally relinquished control to me, and took a Phenergan. I was still trying to decide what I was going to do for the evening when I got a text from Amanda saying that Drew thought the weather was going to be too bad for us to go as originally planned for the evening. The men, excluding mine, (since he was unaware of what was going on) felt that the sooner we went the better. Amanda coerced Drew into watching Lilliana along with his son, Wilson for the evening so that our girl's night could go on without a hitch.

I headed over to The Meffords with Lilliana in tow and got ready for the evening. Then Tracy, Annah Mary, Amanda and I all loaded up and headed to Salsa for dinner and then to Muddy's for some yummy cupcakes as dessert. Drew called while we were gone to ask if Lilliana needed a bath. Of course she did but I hated to put him out anymore than I already had but he insisted that it wasn't any more difficult to throw her in with Wilson. I wasn't sure whether or not I had out clean jammies in her bag but we went with it anyway. When we got back this is what I saw.......







Drew had put some of Wilson's pajama's on Lilliana. It was so stinkin cute. I just love it!! Thanks so much for helping out Drew and allowing us to get together.

Oh yeah, and amazingly Memphis got about 13 inches of snow! We haven't had that much snow since I was about 4 years old!!
