Sick puppy

Since Monday morning my little love has been running a fever and just not feeling like her normal self. She's been a little more clingy, if that's a possibility, and has woken up during the night the last couple nights which is also not the norm. On Monday night I noticed that she had a little redness around her eyes but not really in the white of her eye. I had a feeling it was the start of pink eye but decided I would see what it looked like in the am before putting a call into Dr. K. When she woke up Tuesday morning I noticed her eye was a little more red and she still had a fever so I broke down and called Dr. K.'s office. Of course, they said I needed to come in although I was pretty sure she had pink eye but they told me they typically don't have a fever with it. I told the nurse that I knew they wouldn't do anything if it was just something viral to go along with the pink eye and that I really didn't want to make a trip in there with all those sick kiddos. Well, that didn't really get me anywhere and she sent me to the appointment desk. When I spoke with the secretary she told me she couldn't get me in until 3:15 which is right in the middle of Lilliana's nap time so I made the executive decision that we were going to wait this out a little while longer. I am sure I got the "Mom of the Year" award from her when I told her that I had changed my mind about making an appointment. She informed me that if the nurse thought I should come in I really should listen to her. I just told her I would call back in the am if she was still febrile.

Of course I had second thoughts once I hung up from her and decided to put in a call to one of my best friends who just happens to be a Pediatrician herself. I typically try not to bother Dr. A about these types of things because I know she deals with sick kids all day long but I also trusted her opinion so I just wanted to know what she thought about it all. I called her and explained Lilly's symptoms and she graciously offered to come over and check Lilly out so that I could avoid going into MCC. Once she got off work and was able to get over to our house, Lilly's left eye was much more red but also still febrile. Dr. A checked her ears and listened to her lungs and everything checked out ok. She said her left ear was a little red but not enough to treat at that time. Then it was on to the eyes, and of course what was it ... pink eye! I guess I should just trust my own judgement more often. I mean I do this for a living outside of caring for Lilly. Of course, I work in the PICU so we don't really take care of pink eye but it looked just like it. Thankfully, Dr. A called in some erythromycin ointment for sweet "L" and we started it that evening. It sure is nice to have great friends you can rely on.

Unfortunately the erythromycin was not a fix all and her fever continued until today. After speaking with Dr. A again we both agreed that since she still had a fever going on 4 days now that I should probably take her in. So off to see Dr. K and brave all those sick little kids, even with the threat of swine flu!! After arriving and noticing that the secretaries were playing with their surgical masks, I guess they had debated wearing I asked if we could sit outside in the hospital lobby and they obliged. Luckily we didn't have to wait long and "L" was really good, just sitting in my lap reading some books I had packed in her bag. After seeing Dr. G since Dr. K was booked she was now diagnosed with another middle ear infection, and given a prescription for some Amoxil.

Hopefully the Amoxil, in combination with the erythromycin she will be feeling better in no time. Although I am not so sure we are going to be going anywhere with a new probable case of swine flu just outside of Memphis. I do believe we will just become hermits again until this gets better under control!

Life ...

So I am sure many of you who read my blog also read Kelly's Korner blog. When I stopped by there earlier today I noticed she had a post that contained this song and I had never heard it before. It is such a great song and I am sure rings true for all too many people. For me, fertility has never been a problem and something I am so very thankful for, but for almost 2 years I had such a longing for a child. It would make me angry when I heard stories of people who just happened to get pregnant , or those that would come into the hospital and have 4-5 kids and not even care for them properly. I also really struggled when some of my friends constantly complained about their troublesome child or that they were so sick of this or that. I just wanted to scream "at least you HAVE a child to drive you crazy!" For the most part, I kept it together and just continued to pray daily that the Lord would provide for Clay and I in His perfect timing and that I would be able to carry a baby to term. To be honest, I had pretty specific prayer requests and kinda felt that it was necessary to tell God exactly what it was I wanted ... a healthy baby, full term baby, no pregnancy complications, and a peace to get through it all. I know there were even more specifics but I just can't remember them at this time. I am not sure why I felt I needed to be so specific, I knew deep down that He knew exactly what I needed and would provide for me but I guess I just felt that it was my way of controlling things in the best way I knew how.

I try my hardest now, not to take anything for granted. I enjoy every single day that I am given with Lilly and I pray that I am given a lifetime. I don't want to have any regrets and wish I would have done one thing or another more. Hence, one of the reasons why we still rock at nap and bedtime. :) I actually LOVE this time and cuddling with her. I know that there will be a time soon when she doesn't want her Momma around and all though it will probably completely break my heart, I just try to cherish every minute I have with her now when she wants me and me above everyone else. I would be lying if I told you it bugs me that she doesn't want to be away from me. Of course, it does get old at times when all I am trying to do is grab something from the back room or run outside to the mailbox and she has a total meltdown, but it also makes my heart swell. I love the way she loves me! She is my heart, and I love her more and more each day and can't imagine a single minute without her in my life!!



There are so many women in the world today hoping and praying for a baby for one reason or another. Please join me in praying for these precious women who have that longing that I myself had not long ago. Being a mother is the most amazing, wonderful, fulfilling, lifechanging, hardest, but best jobs I have ever had. I can't imagine my life without my precious Lilliana and look forward to the day she is able to meet her big brother Cooper in Heaven. Oh, how empty my arms once were and how amazingly full they are now. God is so good, all the time! Just in His perfect timing :)

Possible ...

Could it be possible ...

For the last 5 days, Lilliana has consistently taken a LONG afternoon nap! I am talking somewhere between 2 1/2 hours and almost 4 hours on Sunday!! We have been so busy since the weather in Memphis has been so beautiful outside that we haven't been home for a morning nap and she has fallen in line like a champ. I am not saying we are giving up on the morning nap all together but I do feel we are finally heading that direction. I actually have mixed emotions about this because on the nights that I work, which currently is Saturday and Sunday evenings, it makes for a long morning come Monday when I have to wait until 1:00 for Lilliana to lay down for a nap before I am able to.

Although her morning nap typically only would consist of a very short nap time of 30 - 45 minutes it was just enough of a boost to get me through until she laid down for the afternoon. Hopefully I will be able to conform as easily as she has for me :)

I am so excited about these long afternoon naps and have been able to be oh so productive these days. I just have to make myself get up off the couch from watching TV or playing on the computer to get myself going but from there I seem to typically get done everything that must be done while she naps. Hooray!!

Toofer numero tres'

Lilliana's third tooth came popping through the surface on Monday and again on the top. This time it is her incisor and she actually did really well this go around. To be honest, I didn't even realize she had a third one coming in until it was about to poke through. Hopefully that means she is starting to handle these little toofers pretty well! She certainly has a lot more to go through so here's to positive vibes!!

Praying in TN

Today we are lifting sweet Stellan up in our prayers. I was so glad when I checked in with MckMama this morning via her blog and read the amount of peace she felt when handing her precious little Stellan over to the doctors and nurses this morning. I can't imagine the feeling in her gut but I know she is being wrapped in His arms as people all over the world are praying for them.




We are wearing ORANGE today in honor of Stellan! This is not a color that comes out much at the Burchett household but we were more than willing to dig around to find something :)

Sarah and Baby Olivia are both doing great, and Lilliana and I can't wait to go see them. Unfortunately Clay is out of town again so we will have to wait until Thursday when the Yarbro family heads home since Methodist Germantown doesn't allow children to visit under the age of 2. Can't wait to see ya'll and new baby Olivia!

"I'm a big girl now!!"

16 month's young!

I know I say this every month but I can't believe my little baby is already 16 month's young! She is just so darn stinkin cute, of course I am biased, but just melts my heart daily. We have definitely continued our phase with some 'tude but that is not too surprising to me. I have a feeling this is just the beginning and is going to only get worse the closer to 2 we get. She is of course MY child, what do I expect! :) At least I can laugh while admitting it!

Naps are slowly starting to get better. We are still taking 2 a day and having a lot of trouble transitioning to 1. Not sure if that's going to really happen any time soon. She actually seems to take a better morning nap than she does her afternoon nap within the last couple weeks. Not sure what's up with that but I guess at least she is getting her naps in. A third tooth has started to poke through this month and it's on the top again! That brings the count up to 3 on the top and 0 on the bottom. She fit the part perfectly at Easter with her 2 front teeth, just like a little Easter bunny! :)

Just so I don't forget, I wanted to say that she is still wearing anywhere from size 6 mos. - 12 month clothing and is in size 3 diapers. Still tiny, but full of spunk. You know, they always say, great things come in small packages! :)

This is all I can remember right now, I feel like there are some that I am missing. She is so full of personality and when she is around Clay and I, is such a chatty Cathy. She still tends to me shy around other's and doesn't typically like to perform on the spot but we are working on it. She loves to play Momma with her doll's and stroll them around in her baby stroller. She loves her best friend, and future husband, Wilson and her eye's light up when he comes over to play. :) She also LOVES to read books and could do so all day long. Her new favorites are 15 Animals and and book that had pop up pages. Her separation anxiety hasn't made much of an improvement and too be honest feels like it is worse at times. She is so attached to me and I would be lying if I said it bothers me. I love how much she loves me but it does get old at times. It just makes it so much harder to leave her places and with other's when she's as clingy as she is.

We have ventured out when it comes to meal time more within the last month. Her newest favorite is my homemade lasagna. She loves it and I am so glad that she is able to eat some of the same things that we do. She still loves Trish's creamy Italian chicken, and could eat macaroni and cheese with every meal! She enjoys sharing my Special K cereal with me in the mornings or pretty much anything I eat these days. She had her first taste of Chocolate milk this month and loved that too.

She has done pretty good our time-out form of discipline lately and will actually stay where I put her when I tell her she's in time-out! I was actually pretty surprised myself and figured she would just immediately get up but she really seems to understand the concept. When she does something she's not supposed to or throws her food on the ground like she enjoys doing she gets warned at least once if not 2 or 3 times and then has to go to time-out for 1-2 minutes. You are supposed to do time-out for one minute per age so we just go between 1-2 minutes.

We have established a pretty good schedule, I mean routine for our weekly activities. :) We attempt to get to the gym 4-5 days a week somewhere between 8:30 - 9:00 am and get home for her morning nap. On Tuesday's we do art projects and on Wednesday's go to church. Thursday's are our busy days with gym, storytime, and lunch. This is the day we don't get a morning nap but she is still pleasant but completely exhausted by her afternoon nap. On Friday's we attempt the park, Zoo, or Children's Museum. We stay busy but I try to just stay focused on Lilliana. Of course there are times where we just like to stay in our PJ's all day and I don't have a problem with that either. I just love the fact that I am able to be here with her everyday and not miss any of these important times.

Love her more and more each day and can't wait to see her each morning when we wake up!

Easter Sunday

This morning we got up super early to make it to the 8:00 am service at Faith Baptist. Our church had 3 morning services today to accommodate the increase in number's we were expecting today. I thought we could hopefully miss the rush by attending the early service. Unfortunately I had to wake Lilliana p around 7:15 since she had not gotten up yet. I had a feeling it would turn out that way since we had somewhere to be, but she was a real trooper.

We had debated whether or not to give her her Easter loot in the morning since we were running short on time but decided to go ahead and do so. She was so excited about her basket and went straight for her Minnie Mouse first and then onto her baby doll stroller. She wasn't really happy when we had to leave to go to church but she had fun in nursery.

After arriving home from church Lilly went down for her morning nap and Momma got to cookin for Easter lunch. My family cam over to our house to enjoy lunch together so that we would be able to stay at our own house. It is so much easier this way for Lilliana since she still takes 2 naps during the day. We enjoyed Ham from the Honey Baked Ham store, turkey, dressing, corn casserole, macaroni and cheese, green beans, deviled eggs, rolls and dessert. It was so yummy and reminded me of our Thanksgiving dinner's.

We decided to have a little egg hunt of our own at our house after lunch and again Lilliana did great. This time she was able to get even more eggs since she wasn't competing against anyone else! After all my family left we attempted to put Lilliana down for her afternoon nap but after about an hour worth of trying we gave up and decided to go ahead out to Collierville to see Clay's parent's.

We enjoyed some pizza over there for dinner and Lilliana got her Easter basket from Grandmother and Poppy. She had a great time playing and had another easter egg hunt around the house since it had started to storm by that point. We headed home around 6:30 and Lilliana was asleep before we reached the interstate! I knew she was exhausted since she didn't get her afternoon nap but she stayed in a great mood either way.

Hope your Easter was filled with family, fun and the real meaning that His GRACE bought for us.

Happy Easter

He is risen, and the true meaning for celebration today. How thankful are we that we have been given the opportunity to spend eternity with Him because of the price He paid. We had a wonderful service this morning at Faith and look forward to spending this afternoon with our families. So thankful to have our precious miracle with us and thanking God for each day He has given us here on Earth, but still can't wait to see Him and our precious Cooper in Heaven someday, and thankful because of His forgiving and unwavering love for us that it will be possible.

Hoping you had a blessed Easter and were able to remember the amazing sacrifice that was made. So glad the stone was rolled away and the tomb is empty. He lives!

We have been working with Lilliana to learn this song so she could sing it with us at Emerson's birthday party :)

On Saturday we celebrated Emerson's 3rd birthday at River City Gymnastics. We had such a great time and my little gymnist wasn't scared of anything! I guess that has it's pro's and con's but she did great overall. She loved jumping on the trampoline, walking on the balance beam, and hanging on the rings. There were a ton of kids there and I was worried that Lilliana may get trampled on but she held her own!









After all the playing we headed upstairs to the party room where we enjoyed some yummy cake and ice cream, after singing Happy Birthday to Emerson. We then watched her open all her neat gifts including her Mickey Mouse Memory game and Princess puzzle from Lilliana. :)

Easter Egg Hunt

On Saturday morning we headed out to Buckhead for our church Easter Egg Hunt. It was so much fun and I really think Lilliana enjoyed herself. She was quite the pro considering it was her first year to hunt for eggs. I didn't even have to tell her what to do she just seemed to pick right up. We did have to watch out for some of the bigger kids though, the field we were on was up to age 3, and they were definitely quicker than Lilliana! There were a couple times when Dad's would tell their kids to let the "baby" have some eggs but it didn't seem to stop them!! We did end up with a whopping 5 eggs in our basket which I thought was pretty good.

We enjoyed getting to spend time with her friends while we were there and get lot's of good pictures of them together. We are now headed home to hopefully get Lilliana a nap before Emerson's birthday party later tonight.

Easter Playdate

On Thursday, Lilliana and I invited Amanda and Wilson along with Annah Mary and Amelia over for some Easter fun. Typically Thursday includes the gym, story time and lunch with these ladies but we decided to change things up a bit since it was Easter week. After heading to the gym we headed back over to our house and started out the fun with dying some Easter eggs. I had found a Mickey Mouse egg kit at JoAnn's back when they first opened here in Memphis and had been saving it for this day. The kids seemed to have a great time and although within the first 30 seconds Lilliana's hand was dyed pink to match her egg, things went well. She didn't really understand the concept of using the little wire hook to retrieve her freshly dyed egg and would rather just fetch it out with her hands! Mommy learned quickly to keep it far enough away from her the rest of the time. :)











After decorating our eggs the kids enjoyed some duck shaped PB&J sandwiches, "duckie" goldfish crackers, fruit and some kool-aid. The mom's enjoyed a yummy chicken recipe I got from Tracy a while ago that is great to make for a playdate since it cooks in the slow-cooker.

We then headed outside to hunt for the egg's Amanda and I had hidden for the kids. Amelia definitely took the cake here as she found all but about 3 of the eggs! After a little story time with some fun books and enjoying some sugar cookies it was time for everyone to head back to their own houses for nap time. Lilliana handed out a little sand bucket with shovel and some Easter coloring pages as a little thank-you. It was such a beautiful day and just the start of celebrating the resurrection of Jesus this weekend!

Big Weekend ahead ...

We have big plans here this weekend in the Burchett household. Saturday morning we are going to our churches Easter Egg hunt and I can't wait to see how Lilliana reacts to seeing eggs all over the place. After that I am heading to a Bridal shower for my good friend Michelle while Lilliana hopefully takes a good nap, because then it's off to Emerson's 3rd birthday party at River City Gymnastics. I am very excited about the party and would like to get Lilliana signed up for the Fall after she turns 2! She loves hanging on things and is such a little climber these days so I think she will have a great time at the party, as long as we can avoid all the bigger kids!

Then on Sunday we are heading to church to celebrate the resurrection of our Gracious Lord and Saviour, and will celebrate with family that afternoon. I am excited about Lilliana's Easter basket this year. I have gone a little overboard but she is worth it. They are so fun to buy for. I really have to watch myself. :)

Tantrums already?

Could we possibly be dealing with tantrums already? Lilliana is 15 month's going on 2 and I think is already showing quite the 'tude at times. Of course, this may seem astonishing to many of you because thankfully she is quite the little angel when we are out in public but when it is just Mommy and Lilly, she is in full swing. She has started throwing herself on the floor lately and that's really about as far as it goes. There isn't any leg kicking or flailing around associated with it but she is typically crying. This seems to happen when I take something from her that she is not supposed to play with or if I walk away from her too quickly and she wants to hold my hand or be carried. To be honest, I am not really sure how to handle it. So far, I have just been kinda ignoring her and sometimes laughing when I just can't hold it back any longer. I know that seems mean but she is just so dramatic at the ripe old age of 15 months. I have no idea how I am going to handle the terrible 2's and I have heard 3 is worse than 2! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I just don't know if I should punish the acting out behavior or ignore it and not bring attention to it.

Pedicure's times 2

Tuesday night Lilliana and I were getting ready to head to a baby shower for a friend from work and I decided my toes needed painting. Of course Lilliana was very interested so I decided to paint hers too. She was sooo cute and helped me by blowing on her toes when I told her we had to let them dry :)

My good friend from work Sarah is pregnant and expecting her third little girl in April. We were pregnant together with Lilliana and Isabella and actually delivered them on the same day just hours apart. Lilliana and I actually bumped Sarah's c-section since hers was scheduled and mine was because I was in labor! Anyways, on Friday we went to On The Border for lunch with some girls from work to celebrate the upcoming arrival of Olivia. Sarah had a lot of complications with Isabella consisting of contractions and bed rest and has unfortunately gone down the same road this go around also. We are hoping and praying she will get to at least 37 weeks which would be around mid April but we will take what we can get at this point.
