Littlest Love's 1st bath
I couldn't have asked for any better of an experience while at the hospital for H's birth. The nurses were fantastic and my care was just exceptional from the minute I arrived until our nurse walked us to the car. One thing that really made me feel special was that when we arrived on the Postpartum floor my nurse and the charge nurse must have been made aware of what Clay and I have been through to get to this point. They were aware that this was my first baby to be able to room-in with and made it as special as they could. Since H had to be in the isolette for 12 hours, by time I saw him on Thursday morning he still had not had his first bath. My incredible nurse Rachel offered to bathe him in my room with the help of Little Love and I in order to keep H from going back to the nursery! I was so super excited and just thankful that they cared so much. Of course, Little Love just adored her new role of helping bathe her baby brother and I was just able to bask in the newness of how amazing of a blessing my 2 little miracles were.

Meeting Big Sister
Although sister gave us a little trouble leaving on night #1 to go back home where Gigi was going to stay with her, she arrived bright and early Thursday morning ready and willing to meet her new baby brother. She was able to see him from the nursery window the night before but since H wasn't born until 7:28 pm and then I had to stay in recovery and without visitors for an hour, it was late before she arrived home to get to bed. All she could talk about was that the nurses had squeezed her babies toes and made him cry. I am guessing she saw them doing blood work to check his PKU and blood sugar, common things done to a neonate just after delivery. Of course, it was just devastating to L to see him cry and not being able to fix it. Just love her little heart. Every time one of the doctors or nurses would come in to check on us she would tell them not to hurt her baby and squeeze his toes!

Little love's first impression of baby brother couldn't have gone smoother. I love that she immediately put out her little arms to hold him. Such a little mother! :) One of the most special moment's was being able to hold both of my little miracles and just see them 'interact' with each other. Little love can't get enough of baby H and just wants to hold him all the time. She considers him "my baby" and I am just fine with that. Whatever it takes to help her with this big transition works for me. :)

Hamilton's Birth Story
Well, I worked up until 36 weeks pregnant, for which I am extremely grateful and pretty proud of myself! If you remember, we had tickets to Disney on Ice, which I blogged about here, and I was good with Baby B coming anytime after that. Well, I went back into work on Sunday night and had another crazy filled night. Extremely busy and to be honest it just kicked my butt! It was a busier night than average for a Sunday night and adding in that I was 36 + weeks pregnant, exhausted and having to run the CVVH machine during that shift, which requires a lot of bending, I was thinking it just may do me in. Well, when I got home on Monday, my ankles were non existent. This was the first time I had swollen in a pregnancy and I figured it was just because I had been on my feet for 13 hours and so I helped Clay get Little Love ready for school and I laid down for a long nap. When I woke up, my ankles were still incredibly swollen but I still felt fine overall. Clay picked up Little Love from school to help me out and I continued to rest on the couch. It wasn't until the following morning that they were finally back to normal. Whew, I sure was glad because I had been scouring my closet in search of pants and Fall items to cover up those nasty cankles for the remainder of the pregnancy need be. Anyways, I woke up around 5:00 am on Tuesday feeling a bit different. Of course, I'd been having contractions the whole pregnancy but these were different. They were slightly painful and felt somewhat menstrual type and crampy. The week before when Dr. W had checked me I wasn't dilated at all and only about 50% effaced but she had said that baby was extremely low. I could tell that for sure by where the contractions were hurting. I took L to ballet and then we ran an errand before heading home. My contractions weren't exactly timeable but the one's I had were, like I said, somewhat painful. I told Clay when he got home and he had a meeting out in Oakland for school that night so I just told him to have his phone close just in case.
Well, they never really got any closer together than about 10 minutes but I did tell Clay that I thought we'd have a baby in the next 24 hours if I had to guess! The next morning, I took L to school and I thought the contractions had about all but stopped. To be honest, I was a little disappointed. I think I was ready to get this show on the road because I never would have thought I would have still been pregnant or working by that point. I ran by Target for a couple things after dropping L off and noticed I had a few while I was up and around. I came home to rest some since I had not slept well the night before. I woke up just after lunch and decided to go ahead and call my office just to make sure these weren't doing any big changes. You see, the office had called me on Monday to inform me I was positive for Group B strep. This really freaked me out since I had plans for a VBAC and I knew I needed to get 2 doses of antibiotics before delivery. I just had no idea how quickly I would progress once real labor set in since it was all new territory for me. I got an appointment for 2:45 and had to see a different doctor since mine was at the other location that day. When I called, the nurse told me, "well, you're still a bit early, so I suggest you get in here as soon as possible." Well, that really freaked me out because I had spoken with Dr. W the week before and she had told me they wouldn't stop labor at this point so I had not been worried until the silly nurse said that. Of course, I got a little worked up and decided to bring my hospital bag and I grabbed the camera on the way out the door, thank Jesus! Clay was going to pick up L from school and meet me at the office in case they decided to do something.
When I got there, they took me back to a room and my initial blood pressure was high. I think it was 148/94 or something like that. The nurse told me to rest on my left side and she would be back to retake it later. I told her, I was a little worked up over what the nurse on the phone had said and I figured it would be high. Of course, I was also having contractions that were hurting so I was blaming it all on that. When the nurse came back to re-check, my BP was 125/72, a little high for me but just fine for where we were. When Dr. H walked in the room she mentioned the BP and I told her what had been going on and that I was just worked up when the nurse initially took it. She checked me and said I was only about 1 cm dilated and no change in effacement. Again, I was disappointed. I began to wonder if I could really do this whole labor thing since I was already hurting and the contractions obviously weren't making any changes. She hooked me to the monitor to look at my contractions and they were about 10-12 minutes apart but since my cervix wasn't changing, she said to keep on doing what I was doing and see Dr. W on Thursday for my scheduled appt. Before we were leaving she decided she wanted my BP check just once more, just in case and then I could go. Well, of course, it was up again about the same it was initially and since I had been resting and on the monitor she said I needed to go to L & D across the street. Clay had arrived with Little Love while I was on the monitor and we had already been making plans to go get pizza for dinner. So, of course, I was mad. I'm not going to lie. I was really wishing I had not come in that day and just dealt with my contractions at home. I didn't want to go to the hospital and I felt my BP was just up because of stress.
We moved both cars into the parking garage, just in case and headed into L & D. I had admit paperwork from my doctors office so I didn't really have to wait long. My nurse came to get me and Clay and L came back with me to get hooked up. My initial BP there was even higher! They took a series of BP's and they were all about the same but higher than it had been in the office. I was starting to wonder if something more was going on. My nurse came in and started an IV and sent off some lab work. I asked them what they would do if my labs were normal and they said they would at least watch me over night. Again, I was irritable. This was not what I had planned for my evening. I didn't want to be away from Little Love and I wasn't really ready for this. After sending off lab work and everything coming back normal, my nurse told Clay, "we are not having a baby today, you are welcome to get dinner." Clay told her that every time I am in labor and he leaves something happens, we all laughed and she said I would be fine. Well, boy were we wrong. My BP was not coming down so they gave me a dose of Procardia, the med I was on for contractions since 25 weeks is also for BP. When that didn't work, they called the doctor on call for my group and in walked Dr. K. She is the one that delivered Cooper. She decided to check me and said again no change from the office and that she thought we needed to have a baby! What! I just sent my husband and daughter to dinner and we hadn't even called our parents because we wanted more details first. She felt that the best thing would be to get the baby out because if my BP's continued like they were I could seize. I talked to her about my plans for a VBAC and she was in favor but told me we needed to start me on Mag Sulfate to help decrease my BP and risk of seizures and that she could do that and some pitocin overnight since my cervix wasn't making huge strides. I texted Clay to let him know we were having a baby, and quickly got a phone call back. I told him they needed to get their pizza to go and call our parents. I got really upset after she mentioned we needed to have a baby and my BP hit an all time high of 164/115. The nurses and Dr. K kept telling me to take some deep breaths and calm down but I just couldn't at that point. I was seriously starting to freak out. I didn't know what to do, I didn't want Baby B having Mag Sulfate because it can decrease their respiratory effort and I didn't want them to go to the NICU just because I didn't want a c-section. After much thought, I just told Dr. K to tell me what she would tell her daughter if she was in this position. Should I try to VBAC or just go for the section. She said, let's get that baby out and have a c-section. I signed all the paperwork, called my mom and Clay walked in the door just as they were placing my in the wheelchair to head to the OR. They weren't playing around this time!
I was so grateful to have my fabulous nurse Whitney with me, who stayed late just to be there. She was there during my stay in L & D with Cooper and then for delivery of Little Love so I was so glad she was able to be there again. I was so scared, I'm not going to lie. I didn't want to have another c-section but babies health was most important to me and I didn't want to give him any meds he didn't need. I knew we would do the Mag as soon as he was out and I was much more comfortable with that.
My spinal went sooo much better than last time and didn't hurt at all! The CRNA was fabulous and that made the process so much better. No pain, multiple sticks or spinal headache afterwards like last time. From the time I texted Clay to say we were having a baby to the time Hamilton was out was less than an hour! We were so excited when Dr. K said, "It's a Boy"! I think the smile still hasn't left Clay's face!!
Since Hamilton weighed less than 2500 grams, he did have to stay in an incubator for 12 hours in the well baby nursery but since I had to do 12 hours of Mag Sulfate after delivery to help control my BP and prevent me from seizing, it actually worked out well. In the morning when I was done with the Mag he was ready to come see me. It was actually not even a bad experience at all on the Mag and I think it was due to my excitement and adrenaline! I woke up to pump 3 times because I wanted to get my milk supply going before I saw him and I think I called down to the nursery a dozen times to check on him. He did great the entire time but it was such a new experience for me I wasn't sure what to do. :) I was up and at em at 4:00 am and ready for Clay to go and check on him and look at him but he had other plans, like sleep. I didn't get much sleep at all in the first 48 hours but that didn't bother me at all. I was just so loving having visitors come to see me and Hamilton and being able to show off my littlest love to all my friends and family. Such a special time that I will not soon forget.

It's A ......
BOY!!!

Hamilton Mark Burchett graced us with his presence, on September 29th at 7:28 pm. The delivery was not exactly as I had planned but was in His perfect timing and according to His plan. What really matters is that we have a healthy baby boy that was able to ROOM -IN with Mom and Dad at the hospital and didn't require the NICU at all!! Praise Jesus!! He weighed in at a whopping 5 lb. 7.4 ounces and was 19 inches long. Almost the exact measurements of his big sister :) We are all doing fabulously and just enjoying our little family of 4! More details to come. :)

Wishing we were here ...
This is where we were this time last year. A most fabulous week long vacation spent in Watercolor Beach, Florida. Oh how I can't wait to go back. It was the most perfect family vacation we have ever been on and probably the best one Clay and I have ever been on ourselves. So much fun, perfect weather and the love of our family. Oh how I wish we were there right now! Hopefully we'll be planning a trip late next Spring with our family of 4!!

Disney On Ice
On Saturday, we headed to Disney on Ice at the Fedex Forum. I had purchased our tickets some time go, shortly after I realized that it was coming to Memphis and I never would have thought that at 36 weeks pregnant I would really get to enjoy the show with my little love! I am so grateful and we had such a fabulous time together as a family of 3 1/2!!

smiling with Dadda before leaving for the show

now smiling with Momma, I just love her so much!!

all 2 1/2 of us!
We went to the 6:00 showing since the other time was right in the middle of Little Love's naptime. And to be honest, I wasn't sure how that time would work out because I wasn't sure how long it lasted but it was just perfect. We had planned to stop for pizza on the way, since that was Little Love's request for dinner, but when 4:00 rolled around and she still wasn't awake form her afternoon nap, we decided we wouldn't rush and just try to eat after the show. We finally headed out from our house a little before 5:00 and after a quick stop by Walgreen's for a couple snacks and treats to enjoy during the show, in order not to completely break the bank on the $12.00 cotton candy they were selling at the show, we headed to the Forum and were able to make a quick look around at the items they were selling before heading to our seats. We had great seats, just a couple rows back from the floor but I will say, if I had to do it again, I would probably just splurge and get the floor seats. Little Love sat in Clay's lap on her knees for the majority of it in order to see over those in front of us. Maybe it is just because she's so tiny but she still didn't complain about it once. Actually she was either in his lap in a trance or in the aisle dancing the entire time. I think the only few words she spoke to me while we were there was the constant mention of where was Snow White, her all time favorite Princess when she would go off the ice!

walking in to the Forum on Dadda's shoulder's, one of her favorite spots to be :)

posing with Momma before the show started

now with Dadda, I think she was really taking it all in here because she wouldn't look at the camera for anything!
During intermission, we ventured up to the area where they were selling all sorts of Princess and Mickey items and Little Love picked out, who would have guessed it but, a Snow White doll. I was pleasantly surprised because luckily, Snow White is the least ornate of all the Princesses so she was the cheapest. :) I will say, she originally wanted some light up wand thing that spun around but since it was twice the price and I knew it was going to be straight into the toy box when we got home I was able to divert her to the Snow White and tell her we would try and find a Princess wand at either Target or the Disney Store here in town. Luckily, it worked!! We then headed back to our seats to watch the remainder of the show and just after 7:30 it was over.

From there, we headed to Memphis Pizza Cafe to enjoy a yummy dinner on the patio because the weather was just gorgeous. A perfect night to sit outside and enjoy what may be the last weekend and big outing as our family of 3. Clay was pretty hesitant to go to the show because of course, he wasn't really interested at all in what we were seeing and the fact that Alabama and Arkansas were playing in a pretty heated game that he missed the 4th quarter of, I would say he was a trooper. I think he secretly had fun though, as I know I did and even had a few teary moments watching the joy of my little love while she was enjoying watching all the Princesses on the Ice. Of course, I am just going to blame that on pregnancy hormones, but it does make me sad to think she still really has no idea how much her life is about to change, nor do I. I just pray everyday that I will be able to still cherish my 1st little love and still have enough love to go around for this new baby on the way.
Of course, since we didn't eat until afterwards, it was crazy late when we finally arrived home and Little Love headed straight to bed. I went in tot check on her before I headed to bed and since she stirred a little, I decided to check and see if she needed to potty once more and she woke up telling me all about the Princesses she had seen and that Snow White was waving to her and so forth the while time until she fell back to sleep. I would say the night was definitely a success and once hopefully she will remember! :)

Freshening Up
I decided the good ole blog needed a slight facelift. Unfortunately, this is about the extent of what I know how to do but, I guess it will work for now.

Ballet
Here are a couple video's of Little Love from her ballet lesson Tuesday. We just started back last week and this was her second lesson. She still LOVES ballet and since they let the mom's come in for the first couple lessons I thought I would try and get some video. She has a new teacher this semester, Mrs. Anna and she is so super patient and just wonderful with the girls. There are only 4 little girls in her class this semester and since Little Love is the only one that's taken before she is getting a lot of attention from Mrs. Anna. More so because the other little girls just haven't gotten to the point yet where they are comfortable performing. Little Love asked me the first day why I was coming into her room with her! She was ready for me to just sit outside her room like Clay and I did this summer! No fear I tell ya!! She just cracks me up at how much she tries to be the center of attention these days! Never a dull moment with my little sassy girl! I just love her so much!!

Fall Favorites - Thing's I am looking "forward" to this Fall

Tiger Football! Hooray, the new Tiger Lane is open and so gorgeous. Clay and I drove by the other day and we were just so amazed at the work that has been done to the field recently. Although we don't have tickets this year, Memphis football isn't really something to brag about so we shouldn't have a problem getting a ticket to any home games we decide to venture too. Hope we can get a spot on Tiger Lane in the next couple years to celebrate some Tiger home game victories with family and friends!!

Moving into this facility once I come back to work. The current move date is set for December 4th and 5th so hopefully I will be able to miss all of the excitement and just come back to work to a whole new unit. I am super excited about all the changes that are taking place in the entire Methodist system and so proud to say I work there. I seriously, can't wait to be in this new beautiful, clean, large new hospital!! Whoo hoo!!

Pumpkin Spice lattes are back, which can only mean Fall is around the corner. Definitely my favorite time of year. Especially after this incredibly hot summer we have suffered here in the Mid-South. I am so ready for some cooler temps. I'm also pretty sure I will be drinking lots of this in the month's to come with the sheer exhaustion that is sure to follow with a new baby and toddler at home!!

Fitting back into my most favorite pair of Seven jeans. I know it won't happen immediately, and I am ok with that. I am just getting very ready to have some sort of waist line again! I bought some Citizen jeans at the beginning of this pregnancy and sadly they didn't take me all the way through like I had envisioned. I am getting excited about cute jeans, tunics and leggings and all things that the Fall wardrobe has in store!

Oh and in order to accomplish that goal, I look forward to walking / running with my 2 little loves in our new Phil and Ted Sport. I love pushing Little Love around in it already and know she will love it even more when Baby is in there with her. Such fun times ahead.

Oh yeah, and how can we forget, delivery at this beautiful new Methodist facility. I got super excited when Little Love and I were able to tour it this past weekend and can't wait, (well, I can until October 1st or later) for me to grace these doors and praying so hard for the 4 of us to leave together after delivery!!
There are a lot more posts below as I have been trying to catch up so keep scrolling down for more fun posts with pics :)
Still here ...
Well, we are still here, just super busy and trying to savor every last minute with my little love while it's just the 2 of us. I have a lot to blog about though just haven't had the time to sit down and get pics uploaded and I know lots of posts without pics just aren't any fun! I've had 3 fabulous showers for this baby and we have received everything we could ever need at them. I am so thankful for such thoughtful friends and family that love us so much. I promise to update soon. Here's hoping and praying for at least another week and possibly 2 for good measure :)

Big Sibling Class
Today was Little Love's Big Sibling Class though Methodist. I've had a few friends that have done this with their kids and they highly recommended it. I am so glad we went because it seemed to be a huge hit. Little love had a great time and was such a sweet little Momma to her baby doll. It just melted by heart!
When we arrived, they handed out little goodie bags with all sorts of fun stuff in them and had markers and cards on the table so the kids could color a Happy Birthday card for the new baby.

Then they all gathered around Miss B for her to read them a story about "Mommy having a Baby" and then they looked at different sized babies that were at different gestational ages. It was funny to see them passing these little fetuses around but maybe helped put into perspective how little these little bundles of joy are in the beginning.

It was then time for snack and a showing of Arthur. It was about the day Arthur and D.W. became a big brother and big sister. L was entranced during the video and was then ready to start practicing all she had learned. It was now the time she had been waiting for, they passed out the baby dolls and L was able to feed, burp, swaddle, and change her babies diaper. She was so excited about all of it and was so willing to help. I sure hope she is this willing come October.

After all the fun with the baby dolls, we went on a tour of the new Women's Pavilion and even made a trip by the nursery to see a new baby. It was so much fun and just made it that much more real that in the very near future, that will be our reality.
