Mommy and Me II

These are some pics from the remainder of the week of swimming. I was doing really well keeping caught up and then lightning (we think) hit our Internet and it was down for over a week. Now, I am officially WAY behind. Anyways, life has been non stop around here and since I am still feeling really good we are just pushing forward. I blogged about day #1 of swimming here, and that is where I need to pick up. Day #2 was actually a little more difficult. Mrs. Brittany had spoken about day #3 being the most difficult because of an innate sense of fear and realization of what was going on but for us, that hit on day #2. Overall, L did really well she just didn't like to jump from the side anymore and put her face under. Day #3 and #4 were better but still, she would tell me "I can't" when it was time to jump to me from the side. Clay and I really worked on talking it up at home and keeping things really exciting before leaving in hopes of boosting her confidence. On the last day, Friday, parents and/or grandparents were allowed to come and watch and I would have to say that things were going just fabulously until about the last 10 minutes. Clay was there to watch and take pics along with video and she was really showing off her new skills and being such a little fish until the end. Then, all h-e double hockey sticks broke loose. She would not do anything I asked her and was screaming her head off. I really felt like mom of the year by the end. I refused to give up on her so I continued to press on through the screaming. She had not acted like this before but I knew her fear was real. It just broke by heart and I was so worried she would hate me by the time we got out of the water. luckily, she did not and proceeded to tell me she had fun and she said she wanted to come back the next day. Thank goodness that was not necessary but I am glad I didn't scar her for life! We have some fabulous video of all of it and I just may include it. I guess we will both look back on it one day and laugh. I sure hope so at least!!

Mommy and L before the final day

starting with the stations to get them warmed up to the water

floating in the pool

using the pink noodle to kick her legs

blowing bubbles

jumping off the side!!

kicking across the pool from one station to another!

showing off her skills, jumping off the side, cheek dip, head under water, monkey walk (this is just before she exploded)

the side of L no one else gets to see :)

By the way, that's not Lilliana crying the entire time, just in the beginning. It was nice to watch this video because at the time I thought my child was the only one screaming but this just proves that was NOT the case!!

I hope he can handle it!

That is, if this next little babe is a girl! He is definitely going to be in trouble if that's the case! For Clay's sake, I'm hoping for boy. Only time will tell!!

She get's more and more sassy everyday!! :)

Our Day ...

This morning after getting home from work, Clay helped me get Lilliana ready for her first day of swimming lessons. I was a little nervous about how she would act, but we had really talked about it a lot lately and she seemed super excited. I was so impressed with how well she did! She was such a little fish and did pretty much anything Mrs. Brittany asked her to do. I'm hoping the rest of the week will go as well. I am just so glad she loves the water like her Momma.

I will say, Clay was a little hesitant for me to do them again this year because he just didn't see the big deal and thought that it didn't really matter until she could truly learn to swim. Well, while we were watching The Today Show this morning before we left, they did the most perfect excerpt that spoke about the importance of starting children in swimming lessons early in order for them to learn water safety. The AAP is now recommending you to speak with your pediatrician to find the best time for starting each individual child but suggests it much earlier than in the past. Now there's no more arguments about the importance of teaching L early. I see near drownings all the time this time of year in the PICU so it didn't take much to sell me but Clay was another story!

ready for day #1 of swimming lessons!

Swimming Lessons

This week we will be starting Mommy and Me II classes with Mrs. Brittany. Lilliana seems extremely excited and has told me she is going to go under water, hold her breath, blow bubbles and jump off the side of the pool to me. I am curious as to how she is going to really act since she is so much more aware of her surroundings this year and can talk back now! Here's hoping for a productive and fun week and one that is stress free. :) As long as she doesn't act anything like her Momma did the first time she had to jump in the deep end for swimming lessons things will go well. I remember it so clearly and I am sure my Mom won't soon forget. It included a lot of screaming crying and kicking and I even locked Mom out of our fashionable baby blue station wagon we had at the time! Let's hope I don't get paid back for that one!!

Our week

This week has been somewhat low key. On Monday after a long night a work I had a meeting at Lilliana school with the Parent's Committee that helps put together events for the teachers and helps with the organization of everything PDO. I was thrilled when they called to ask me if I wanted to be on it this year, something about it just made me feel like more of a "real" mom. Not sure what, I think this is just the first step in all those fun things like room mom responsibilities that will be had in the future! After that, I had a meeting at work for the new position I had taken on there with the ECMO team so when I finally arrived home just after 2:30 I was more than spent!! I had been awake since early Sunday morning and was ready for a little shut eye. Luckily, Clay was able to pick up L from school and they had a little play time before waking Mommy up so we could enjoy some dinner.

On Tuesday, Lilliana and I had a little play date at our house with our good friends the Whitsell's. Lilliana and Clark are only about 2 weeks apart and you could definitely tell in their mannerisms. They are both at the same stage and were not a huge fan of sharing all of the toys but after an hour or so, they started playing really well together. Kirsten and I enjoyed a yummy lunch of creamy Italian chicken with a fruit salad and then after some play time outside it was time for naps.

On Wednesday, L had school and after a trip to the gym I went to see one of my good friends from work that recently had a baby and bring her some Chick-Fil-A for lunch. Although Bryn slept the entire time I was there it was time to catch up with Shanna and see her little angel. Clay had spent the day studying at the library in preparation for his upcoming LSAT review courses that start in June, so Lilliana and I met him at a new Mexican restaurant for an early dinner. It's called Las Delicias and it is so good and cheap too! We were recently introduced by some of our good friends and now every time we go we tend to see other people there we know. If you live in Memphis, you must try it!!

On Thursday, we had planned for a low-key day at home. Lilliana and I ventured out to go to storytime but I got a text from work about 15 minutes after we got there and I was needed to help put a kid on ECMO. I rushed home and left L with Clay and quickly changed before heading into the hospital. It went pretty uneventful and I was home just shortly after 5:00. I know I will enjoy those 5 hours of time and a half on my next pay check!!

Today, we did have a low key day at home. Clay headed to the library again to get in some good studying but not before giving me my 2nd 17OHP injection!! He did a fabulous job and I told him I barely even felt it this time. He was really nervous and acted as if he was going to chicken out at first but I think it was just nerves. 2 down only 18 more to go (we hope). Nana was heading out our direction so she brought us some lunch from Chick-fil-A when she came by for a visit. We both took naps and then had some dinner before I headed into work for the evening. Tomorrow, Mom is coming over again to watch L so that I can get some sleep and Clay can play some softball. It's been a while since he's been able to so since Mom was able to come watch Lilliana for me we decided it was the perfect opportunity. Here's hoping for an uneventful night tonight and to a nice day with the family tomorrow. :)

He did it!

Yes, Clay was able to give me my 17 OHP shot successfully and didn't even feel the slightest bit faint before! I was actually pretty worried about it to tell you the truth because Clay has only 3 fears in this world and they are needles, pickles and chewed gum in that order. I know weird, I think so too. Anyways, he did great. When we first got to the office I asked him if he was nervous and he told me he didn't want to talk about it. Then, when the nurse brought us back to a room, she started talking about making sure he missed my sciatic nerve, getting the injection in my gluteus maximus muscle and aspirating the needle before injecting the med. Clay just stopped her mid sentence and asked what everything she had just said meant in non-medical terms! I got a little worried at that point that she would feel he wasn't qualified and would tell Dr. W that it would be best for me to come into the office but she didn't and just kept on going. After asking about 100 questions Clay was ready to do the deed and was quite quick if I say so myself. The nurse told him to not go so quickly the next time and that it wasn't necessary for him to have held the needle so far back before giving me the shot but overall he did well. He still tells me that he's not 100% sure he is going to do it every week but I told him that I have confidence in him! 1 down, hopefully 19 more to go!!

Happy Birthday GiGi!

On Thursday we had Clay's family over for a casual dinner in honor of Marilyn's birthday. Clay grilled out steaks and then I made baked potatoes, salad and a banana caramel pie for dessert. It was such a great time and we are so thankful to have our family close.

Marilyn has been teaching Lilliana the pageant wave and now she will wave and say, "elbow, elbow, wrist, wrist, touch your pearls and blow a kiss!"

Love her!!!

Show Us Your Life - Books

Show Us Your Life with Kelly's Korner

Today over at Kelly's blog she is doing a tour about books you love. Well, I would be lying if I said I have always been an avid reader. It really wasn't until I got out of school and I was able to read what I wanted in the length of time that I chose where reading really became fun to me. Now, I LOVE to read and I am typically always in the midst of 2 or 3 novels at once. Below are some of my favorites. I LOVE anything by Karen Kingsbury and read about 15 of her books while I was on bedrest with Lilliana. I think she is such a fabulous author and I feel like I can actually learn something and fell better about myself after reading something from her. My mom was the one that got me into reading these Christian fiction novels and now I can't put them down!

Currently I am reading the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Now, this is quite the change from my typical Christian fiction but sadly, I am hooked. One of my best friends got me started reading these and although I am only on the 2nd book (out of 7 very long books). I hope to be able to continue and eventually finish her series. I am really interested in learning about the history that takes place in these books and the main character is a nurse by trade so that makes it really neat.

I've also read some by Francine River's and they go along more with what I am used to reading and I love them too. I have read, "The Atonement Child", "Redeeming Love" and I think some other's that I just can't remember the titles of right now. I just got my mom, "A Mother's Hope" for Mother's Day and would love to read that one when she is done.

Reading has become such a haven for me and I just love a good book. One of my favorite things to do is go outside and rock in the rocking chair while L naps and read a good book. Not much better, besides doing so on the beach!!

Fear

Thank you so much for all the congratulations and prayer's. I am determined to not allow fear to overcome me this pregnancy but to try and enjoy it as much as possible. Lilliana is really helping out a lot as she says she has a baby in her belly too! She is so cute and just wants to be like Mommy at this point so I'm not condemning her. She says that Mommy has a baby boy in her belly and that his name is 'Larry', I have no idea where she got that one from! She is supposedly carrying a baby girl and her name is Baby girl Dora. She is so fun these days and there is never a dull moment.

I don't have a very good history about posting on this blog when it comes to my pregnancies. My mom actually started this blog for me in 2006 shortly after learning I was pregnant and if I recall, it was just after my first post that I went into pre-term labor with Cooper. Then I didn't do a whole lot of blogging because I didn't really have much to talk about besides how sad I was until I got pregnant with Lilliana. I determined that I was not going to do anything the same as I did with Cooper and was determined not to take pictures or even talk about it much for fear of history repeating itself. It was then in November of 2007 that I posted about our new house and although I didn't mention my current pregnancy out of fear it was the following morning that I went into pre-term labor with L and ended up in the hospital on Magnesium Sulfate and stayed for 4 days. Then I was sent home on strict bedrest where I stayed until the day before L made her appearance. I know that these common circumstances don't have anything to do with each other and that whether or not I post to my blog or take pictures doesn't make a difference in the outcome of my pregnancy. I would like to think that I'm not superstitious and really I don't think I am I just allow fear to overcome me. Well, like I said before I am determined to not allow that to happen this time around. I have got to trust that God is going to provide for me and that I can rely on Him for anything. I KNOW that He is not going to give me more than I can handle and I just pray constantly that I can feel this sense of peace.

I am scheduled to see Dr. W tomorrow so that the nurses can teach Clay how to administer my weekly Progesterone shots. This should be interesting as this is the man that won't even take a seasonal flu shot for fear of needles. I can't even remember the last time he went to the doctor much less got a shot for himself. With L, I just went to the office weekly for shots but I don't have that kind of time this go around. I just pray he will miss my sciatic nerve and that we will be able to get through the next 20 weeks together!

GIRL

or

BOY!!!!

Sorry guys, we're actually not planning to find out this go around. I just think there are few surprises in life and I would like this one to be a surprise if all possible. We were really nervous yesterday during our ultrasound that the tech would accidentally slip up and tell us or that we would see something. She was really good and told us to turn our heads and not look when she was scanning the legs and getting the gender for our records.

Everyone that came into our room she made sure to tell them not to use any pronouns! I really felt a sense of peace while I was in the office waiting to go back and I know that I had been covered in prayer. The whole time she was scanning me she kept telling me that things were looking good. After we had been in there about 40 minutes she decided that she had not been able to see everything and sent us to the waiting room to wait to talk with Dr. S. Well within about 10 minutes she came back and said she really would like to scan me one more time and see if she could see the pulmonary veins. Of course, this got my heart racing since this is what was wrong with Cooper and it was never seen on US. Clay and I both agreed as we were talking later that we got scared she had gone and spoken with Dr. S. and maybe he had seen something she did not. Well, back up on the table I went again but this time they were able to locate the pulmonary veins and everything looked like it is supposed to.

Dr. S. came in and spoke with me and agreed we should scan just one more time in 4 weeks to get a better look since the heart is so small right now. Otherwise he said things looked great.

We are so thankful for this amazing gift and can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for us!!

Mother's Day goodies!

This year we had a fabulous low key Mother's Day with just our little family. It's hard to do much on Sunday afternoons since I have to work Sunday nights so we just decided we would try and get together with our Mom's later this week.

Clay did a great job, with my help of course on a Mother's Day gift. :) I got the Flip Mino HD video camera a month or so ago and had told him that could be my gift from L but he knew there were some things that I needed / wanted that were reasonable so he got me those too. I was really in need of some new house shoes so I picked these out in cream at L.L. Bean and can't wait to wear them. They are so cute but seem really functional and my old one's are from the Christmas before last and are in grave need of being retired!

I also got a new pair of Tory Burch flip flops. I wanted these so bad last summer but couldn't find them anywhere around here and had already bought multiple paris of flops and just felt it was unecessary. Well, this year, I realized that a store right around the corner from me carries them so I just couldn't resist! I am so excited about my gifts and can't wait to wear my new cute shoes, especially sicne in a few short month's that's all that will be cute on me!! :)

(They look just like thes but they aren't the wedge flip flops, just the regular ones)

Mother's Day 2010

Today was a fabulous day! I woke up this morning and enjoyed breakfast with my little family and then we got ready to head to church. We heard a great lesson this morning in Sunday School about marriage and then we were going to head to service but it is so hard for me on Sunday's since I have to go to work that evening. If we go to both service and Sunday School, we don't get out of there until 12:30 and Lilliana and I need to nap around 1:00. It just really doesn't leave much time for me to spend with her or Clay. So, we decided that we would go ahead and leave and we headed to Abuelo's for lunch. It was so yummy and Lilliana really enjoyed sharing "her" cheese dip with Clay and I. After lunch, we headed back to the house to have some fun outside and Clay took some pictures of me and my little love. (I'm at work now, but I will try and get them uploaded and added tomorrow)

After naps we enjoyed some leftovers and then I headed into work and Lilliana went with Clay to Collierville to see GiGi. Thanks Clay and Lilliana for such a fabulous day! I love you both with my entire heart and I am so thankful that I get to spend my days and nights with you!!

Happy Mother's Day!

For me, Mother's Day has run the gamut of emotions over the last few years. In 2006, we had just the slightest forethought about starting our family and if I recall, Clay had just returned a few month's prior from a work trip that had him away for 4 month's. Then, in 2007, my arms were empty, my heart remained shattered and I remember, to date, that being the hardest Mother's Day of all. Actually, we didn't even stay in town that year but in turn took a much needed vacation to Florida and then up to New Orleans for a little time away from all the hustle and bustle of life. I think this is the only time we have ever been away from our Mom's on Mother's Day but it was just what I needed at that time in my life just 7 short month's after losing Cooper. Of course, not knowing it at the time, I was just a wee bit pregnant with Lilliana and had no idea what God had in store for our little family. In 2008, I sat in the church service with tears streaming down my face but for a new reason all together. I was holding my precious miracle child, the one who hadn't graced the walls of the church nursery yet, and just thinking about how good God had been to us. This was also the day we dedicated Lilliana to the Lord and had all our family there with us to celebrate and walk with us. Then in 2009, with my little 17 month old finally in nursery, I enjoyed a peaceful, uninterrupted service that really spoke to me on what the roll of a Mother is. There are times when I get frustrated and think I am just not sure I am cut out for this job, but it's those times when by asking Him to guide me and assist in leading her to where she should be as a child of His that I feel such a sense of reassurance. Well, here we are 2010. It has been quite the year with Clay's job loss and the continued search for something permanent plus the addition of school and the loans that come with that. All that said, I couldn't be more happy. I love my little family and all that God has in store for me in the coming months. You see, this year, as I am taking my little miracle to Sunday School and joining other's in church service, I am also baking one and praying for another little miracle that is due to arrive in late October! Yes, we are expecting again. We are extremely excited and so far things have been going well. My biggest prayer is that we can make it until at least the 1st of October which would be 1 week longer than I went with Lilliana.

My doctor has been just fabulous as usual and has such confidence that we can meet or exceed my lofty goal. I know that 37 weeks isn't a magic number itself but it is the goal I had with Lilliana and I would really like to be pregnant that long for once. :) Please just pray with us for a healthy baby and that we can ward off as many complications as possible this time around. Obviously, with me being the only one working at this point, it's really important that I can go to work so I would love prayers on that end too. I have a lot of posts that I have been writing and not publishing and I will work on getting those up soon.

I know this holiday is difficult for many woman, for different reasons and I have been saying a little prayer for you all this week. I know that longing feeling to want to be a Mother and I am so grateful to the One who chose me to raise my precious kids. Happy Mother's Day to all.

Psalm 139:13-18 - “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to [a] me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.”

Greek Festival

Today Lilliana and I went to Greek Festival over at Memphis Greek Orthodox Church. One of the physicians that I work with goes to church there and had some free tickets and so I thought it would be something fun for Lilliana and I to do while Dadda was playing golf. When we first arrived Lilliana immediately noticed the bouncy houses so that is where we headed first. She had such a great time and was in there more than 30 minutes when all of a sudden there was a generator failure and the whole house collapsed! I was so thankful that one of the workers had just gone into jump with her so she was able to quickly pick her up and come out the back. I think it was a little scary for L at first because she kept talking about it but it didn't stop her from going back.

We decided to take a little break after all the commotion and grab a bite to eat. Lilliana said she wanted chicken so I ordered us a chicken gyro and we both really enjoyed it. I was a little nervous at first that she wouldn't eat it but she just kept calling it a taco, which she loves so she didn't have any complaints. We had noticed the snow cone stand while we were in the bouncy houses so we headed that direction before making our way back to the fun and enjoyed splitting a strawberry and grape flavored snow cone.

After all our eating we enjoyed some more fun on the slide and bounce house before heading home for naps. It was such a great day and Lilliana seemed to really enjoy herself. She kept telling me on the way home that she wanted to jump. Maybe I can find her one of those jump houses for the yard. I'm sure her Dadda would be thrilled!!

Lilliana loves chick-fil-a

Today we had hair-cut appointments out in Collierville so we headed out a little early and made a day of it. I decided that we would run through Chick-fil-a and grab a little lunch before heading to the park. Well, Lilliana was so excited when she realized where she was that she started making up songs about our favorite little go to happy place. :) She is so funny and this is a perfect example of what my day consists of normally. I was glad they weren't as speedy as usual in the drive through so I was able to capture this little moment! Love her so much!!

Oh, and yes I do realize that her hairbow is the size of her head, that's the way we like it down here in the South, at least that's what this Momma likes :)

fun with Baby James

This is a short video I captured while we were in Birmingham with the girls last week. Lilliana really took well to Baby James and asked about him the whole time we were there. She was really good with him and thought he was just the cutest thing she'd ever seen! I would love to say the feeling was mutual but I think sweet James was most interested in her hair! Luckily, we were just able to pull it into a ponytail in order to keep little fingers off of it :)

(don't forget to pause the music at the bottom before hitting play, oh and please excuse my stopped up nose voice in all the last video's, my sinuses are going crazy this year and I feel like I have had a cold for at least a month now!!)

One sick little lady

While we were in Birmingham last week, Lilliana started with a little cold and cough that seemed more than allergies. I let it ride until Monday after school when her teachers informed me upon picking her up that she'd had 2 accident's that day and not made it to the potty in time. This is not typical for L and I then started to worry that maybe she also had a bladder infection or something else going on so I called Dr. K and got an appointment for first thing Tuesday morning. Luckily, I guess, it ended up just being her ears and we were sent home with Augmentin to take for the next 10 days. She seemed to be doing better and her cough had eased up some but on Friday morning when she woke up I could tell immediately that she was burning up with fever. She was clingy and didn't want me to put her down and after taking her temp I realized it was 102.8. Not fun! She didn't want anything to eat and just wanted to go back to bed. So off to dreamland we both went for the next 2 hours and when she woke up she wasn't any better. I had given her some Tylenol before we laid back down and was just waiting for the next 2 hours to pass so I could start to good ole Tylenol and Motrin every 4 hour rotation. Her fever never really broke all day and she ended up getting sick once so I assumed it was something viral. She went back down for a nap around 12:30 and slept for more than 3 hours. When she got up, she was burning up again and then started to throw up so I decided I was NOT going to work. Glad I did so, since she was up every 2 hours throughout the night getting sick. :( Of course, the poor little thing didn't have anything on her stomach because all she had eaten was a grape popsicle and drank some water but she would just get so scared when she felt sick. It was a long night needless to say, especially combined with the horrible weather we had coming our way. I think the tornado sirens started going off at 4:00 am and didn't really stop for about 24 hours. The weather has been horrible with lot's of flooding and nasty rainy weather.

When she woke up on Saturday she was still febrile and her temp was back up to almost 102 so we continued the Tylenol and Motrin but she seemed to be doing somewhat better because she told me she was sooo hungry. She ate some cereal for breakfast but ended up being kinda puny so I put her back down for a nap around 11:30and she slept until just after 4:00! After that she seemed like her old self again and was able to eat another popsicle and have a little snack. I decided to work tonight to make up for yesterday and hopefully she has had a good night with her Dadda. I hate her being sick but she was so cuddly I did enjoy it in the slightest bit. I miss her sitting still and loving on me so much. She is turning into such a big girl and I love that side of her too but there are time's where there's nothing better than just snuggling with my little love :)

My Big Backyard

On Thursday we headed to My Big Backyard with some friends and had a such a great time. Lilliana loved playing in the houses and on the playground. Such a great place to go and hopefully we will be able to get a membership soon because L won't be free for much longer and she loves it! :)

On a side note, obviously I am loving my new purchase of a Mino HD Flip video camera. I had wanted one for some time and Clay and I decided I could get one after we got our tax returns so Happy Early Mother's Day to me! It is so great, compact and perfect to capture life's little memories with a little one :)

Lilliana singing Old McDonald

She NEVER stops talking, or singing for that matter. This was last Monday after school :)
